Even The Darkest Night Will End And The Sun Will Rise

Even The Darkest Night Will End And The Sun Will Rise

As some of you may know, I was in the US Army from 2008 to 2015. During that time I went through one of the lowest points in my life dealing with depression and alcohol abuse. I was drinking mass amounts of alcohol and secluding myself from all social activities.

On July 5th, 2011 my good friend, my basic training battle buddy Preston J Suter was killed in a roadside bomb (IED) in the Pakita Province in Afghanistan. Also killed were Staff Sgt. Joshua A. Throckmorton, 28, of battle creek, Mich., and Spc. Jordan C. Schumamn, 24, of Port Saint Lucie, Fla. The soldiers were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and were assigned to the 709th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade, 21st Theatre Sustainment Command, Hohenfls, Germany. RIP. I didn’t want to eat. I didn’t want to sleep. Alcohol became my best friend. Through a lot of counseling, mentorship and higher command soldiers, I slowly started working on my rehabilitation. Physical fitness was my outlet to work through the pain. For those few hours I was in the gym nothing else mattered. It was my paradise I could go to escape life’s harsh reality. It’s been seven years and i’ve kept up my fitness lifestyle and continue to use the gym as my outlet for stress and therapy it really is one of the greatest forms of stress relief. Stay strong. Stay motivated
