2 Ways To Break A Plateau

2 Ways To Break A Plateau

Plateaus, we’ve all met them… they stop us dead in our tracks and hold us there for who knows how long. And at these particular moments in time, nothing sounds more appealing then that 10 pound jump on a lift or that 5 pound drop on the scale. You know, something to just let us know that were progressing forward again, right? Luckily, theres always an abundance of these two examples were about to explain that can help you push past your current plateau. Lets get started!

Advice Is Everywhere If You Just Ask.

Picture this; you’re in the middle of your session, maybe its leg day, when you see someone performing an exercise that you’ve never seen before. You can sort of make out how and what body part it’s working, but your still a little unsure about it. Nonetheless you’re curious… now upon seeing this, how many of you actually approach that person and asked them about that exercise?

We can’t tell you how many plateaus we broken past by doing this very thing… the more you know, the more you grow!

Now we know for some, approaching others in the gym can sometimes seem a little uneasy… you may feel that you’d be disturbing the other person. But the truth is, that’s not what most people think. We certainly don’t feel that way when we get asked question in the gym. Further more, having asked literally hundreds of people about exercises over the years and still doing it to this day, as there’s always more to be learned, we never get the impression that were interrupting the other person. So get social guys, and just remember that were all after the same goal of progression, right?!

Routines

So there’s this great line from a book we once read by Kenneth Blanchard that says, “Haw, haw, look at us. We keep doing the same thing over and over again and wonder why things don’t get better.” Blanchard was referring to change and how we all must ultimately embrace it. That being said, when we look at our fitness routine, the very name says it all. Routine! Change is often times the very thing that we need most when it comes to progression, which is why gym partners are so valuable in pushing us through plateaus!

Run through someone else’s routine for a change… get you body adapting again and recognize that no two individuals train exactly the same. And with that, realize that your bound to come across new ways to targeting a muscle, perhaps different angles or even techniques that will help you break past that plateau!
